Critical Minerals

Coal ash is in abundance in the United States and receives much attention around its disposition.  As a company with vast experience in remediating water once considered contaminated into a useable product, the idea of extracting product from ash was highly intriguing.

Winner Water Services (Winner) launched into the Critical Materials field while conducting research and development around coal ash. With Rare Earth Elements in a critical state in the United States, due to scarce production facilities, Winner was awarded the opportunity to demonstrate a process for the extraction of REE’s from coal ash.   This led to the refinement of the process, the building of a pilot plant as well was the demonstration of their Liquid-to-Liquid Extraction process (LLX) for separation and further refinement.

Rare Earth Elements are critical in the production of technology driven consumer products, electronics, electric vehicles, magnets, and commercial applications, in addition to equipment used in national defense.  The military has a particular need for REE’s, and uses significant amounts in creating equipment such as fighter jets.  With China controlling the supply chain, U.S. is actively pursuing processes and technologies that will lessen its dependency on a foreign government for supply.

Winner has both the experience and expertise in using otherwise considered useless, often contaminated sources and through remediation produce valuable products.  Winner maintains its intention and commitment to being responsible stewards of the environment as it remediates and creates no hazardous byproducts.
